If the early returns from his FOX reality show "The Next Great Champ" are any indication, Oscar De La Hoya won't be television's next great reality star. If the late returns from Saturday (Sept. 18) night's middleweight title bout with Bernard Hopkins are any indication, the Golden Boy won't be hoisting any new boxing belts in the near future.

Hopkins stopped De La Hoya in the ninth round on Saturday with two powerful blows to the body that left the better paid reality star pounding his fist against the canvas in agony. According to media reports, Hopkins was winning on the fight on two of the three judges' scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

While Hopkins earned $10 million for the fight, De La Hoya, one of the most reliable tickets in the sport, is believed to have made a whopping $30 million. De La Hoya's record fell to 37-4, though all of his losses have come in recent years.

On the small screen, De La Hoya has also had some difficulties. Beating NBC's "The Contender" to televisions after a large amount of controversy, "Next Great Champ" has failed to capitalize on its notoriety, much less create any buzz. Barely over five million viewers tuned in for the show's premiere episode and the numbers were virtually unchanged in its second week.
